The Job Market
The Job Market is difficult, but there are several tricks you should know to improve your employment chances. You may be considering a career change or moving to help you find work. While these actions may not be bad ideas, it is by no means necessary to completely uproot your life. We strongly recommend approaching the job market by looking at your skills and seeing how they can best apply to other career choices. Even though you may have skills in mortgage banking, there are still accounting and bookkeeping jobs in many industries.
We also recommend that you consider taking a a job for fun. While you may not be able to find as much money as you were looking for in another career you may still be able to pay your bills. While it may seem like a blow to your ego, taking an easier to get service position may be just what you need to get out of the house and to get enough money to make ends meet. You will still find time to apply to other positions. Many service industry jobs are part time.
You must be flexible in the job market. There are opportunities. Feel free to take a look at our full job board for example. Chances are your skills can be useful in other fields. Maybe for now you should volunteer one or two days a week. This shows that you are committed to working and feel lost when you are just sitting at home with no direction.
The most important thing about gaining confidence in the job market is networking. No, you don’t need to go nuts, start by just talking to people you are waiting in line with. While nothing will come of it, you never know. Your best network are your friends and family. When you are looking for a job, make it your duty to be in touch with your friends and family. Chances are they will want to help you. This quickly multiplies the number of ears and eyes you have looking out for work for you. Remember, your friends and family may not always have the best ideas for what work you should be doing. It is ok to tell them no if they want you to go up for an interview. But remember, they probably have your best interests in mind, so be open minded.
The job market is tough, but make sure to get yourself out there. The people who are most successful at finding work are the people who are meeting others and calling their friends and families.
