Bring a notepad to take notes and a folder to hold your resumes and any materials you may get from prospective employers. Be confident in your conversations with the people in charge of booths for companies you are interested in. Always use a strong handshake and get contact information from those in the booth.

Often times companies are just there to hire for one or a few positions, but it’s a great time to get a contact in the HR department. You can easily get a business card with phone numbers and email of important HR people. Take this information, be friendly and interesting, and make an impression. Wait a day or two and then send out an email to the HR representative. Remind them who you are and reiterate what you are interested in about their firm.

While you are waiting in line to talk to potential employers, meet everyone around you. This can be a great place to talk to like minded people, grow your network, and get clued in on specific job and career tips. This networking is the most important part of a job fair and we strongly encourage you to meet as many people around you as possible.

If you are desperate for work, you should be able to find something at a career fair. If you are looking for a specific position you will certainly have a better chance.
